The following is a list of groups, organizations and businesses that are working to further the goals of environmental protection and conservation:

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

  • Created by the UNEP and the World Metrological Organization (WMO) in 1988. Their mission is to “assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the best available scientific, technical and socioeconomic information on climate change from around the world.” (Downloadable PDF)
  • Open to all member countries of the UNEP and WMO
  • All reports are processed through a two-stage scientific and technical review process. For the first review, drafts are inspected by persons in the field. Revised drafts are shown to governments, all authors and expert reviewers

Schools Going Solar.org

  • Looks at schools that are solar, linked from Colorado Renewable Energy Society
  • Interestingly it says that “Green Mountain Power donated 2kw solar systems to the Cabot School and the Vermont Commons School.” (More information)

Center for ReSource Conservation

  • Boulder based center looks to bring “Colorado residents, businesses, and municipalities towards a sustainable future.”
  • Looks at water, waste, green building and energy components
  • Geared for Colorado residents and businesses and looks strongly towards renewable energy implementation with tax off-sets by from Colorado legislature
  • Link page is very good for Renewable companies and Efficiency groups, but mostly Colorado based

Efficiency Vermont

  • Boldly declared as the “Nation’s first statewide provider of energy efficiency services” who are independent and a non-profit but under contract by the Vermont Public Service Board (VPSB). Funded by an efficiency charge on area electrical bills, though Burlington Electric Department customers still pays for efficiency services from BED, Efficiency Vermont provides technical , financial and design assistance and guidance for commercial, agricultural, government and residential sectors in Vermont. Efficiency Vermont was created by 2000 Vermont legislature and the VPSB. Visit their website for information on efficiency

Point Carbon

  • News outfit that deals with European and global power, gas and carbon markets
  • Very Up to date with issues that affect the US as well, requires subscription

European Standards

  • Currently there is a wikipedia article on emissions. It states that the European Union is moving towards mandatory CO2 standards but has yet to make any firm policy on the issue. They have some limits for vehicles but that is unrelated to our aspect
  • Under the Kyoto protocol, member countries impose limits on firms in the market
